  3. Add beaten egg, yoghurt, oil, vanilla extract to dry mixture. Mix well to ensure no lumps are present
  4. Pour the above mixture to baking dish
  5. Bake for 30-40 minutes until top is browned. It should not get burnt or blackened
  6. While it's baking, prepare sugar syrup
  7. Boil sugar, water, rose water, lemon juice in a saucepan. Boil until syrup is thick and coats behind the spoon
  8. Once Basbousa is baked, take it out from oven. Pour the sugar syrup immediately on top. Let it stand until syrup is completely absorbed by Basbousa
  9. Sprinkle coconut flakes/ Dessicated coconut on top of Basbousa evenly
  10. You can add crushed pistachios or almonds on top for additional garnishing
  11. Refrigerate for 6-7 hours or overnight
  12. Cut in diamond shapes and serve cold
