Beignets/Mandazis is one of the most favored of recent trending foods on earth. It is enjoyed by millions every day. It is easy, it’s quick, it tastes delicious. Beignets/Mandazis is something which I’ve loved my whole life. They’re nice and they look fantastic.

To begin with this particular recipe, we must first prepare a few components. You can have beignets/mandazis using 8 ingredients and 9 steps. Here is how you cook that.

The ingredients needed to make Beignets/Mandazis:
  1. Get 2 cups self raising flour
  2. Take 1/8 cup sugar (add or reduce to taste)
  3. Get 2 table spoons margarine
  4. Get 1/2 teaspoon salt
  5. Get 1 egg beaten
  6. Get 1/2 cup warm milk
  7. Get 1/2 teaspoon ground cinammon (optional)
  8. Get Oil for deep frying

A while back I made these mandazi beignet and they were a hit with a lot of readers and with good reason. In a large bowl combine all the dry ingredients, flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, sugar, cardamom spice and nutmeg. Gently add all the liquid ingredients, eggs, butter and milk. Combine until mixture comes together and dough is smooth.

Steps to make Beignets/Mandazis:
  1. In a bowl sieve the flour then add in sugar, salt and cinammon n mix well.
  2. Add the margarine and rub it into the flour until it forms crumbs (looking like bread crumbs)
  3. Make a well in the middle and pour in the beaten egg then the warm milk gradually while kneading to a soft (but not sticky) dough.
  4. Cover bowl with a kitchen cloth and allow to sit n rise for about 10 minutes
  5. Dust your work top and roll the dough flat roughly 1cm thick.
  6. Heat enough oil in a deep frying pan till hot enough. You can check whether oil is hot by dropping a small piece of dough in it. If the dough rises n floats at the top the oil is ready.
  7. Cut into squares (or whichever shapes you like) and fry several pieces at once depending on size.
  8. Fry while turning till golden brown on both sides. Remove and drain excess oil on a kitchen paper.
  9. Serve with a cold or hot beverage.

Gently add all the liquid ingredients, eggs, butter and milk. Combine until mixture comes together and dough is smooth. If it is too sticky add a little bit of flour. The taste and texture of mandazi are closer to a beignet than a traditional donut. There are many ways to make mandazi but this is my go-to recipe because it is very quick and easy to make.
