Golden Mantou refers to deep fried Mantou while silver Mantou refers to un-fried steamed buns with a pure white color. Usually the dish is served with condensed milk. Instructions to make Fried bao (mantao):
  1. Add water, yeast, sugar, vanila essence, salt, mix well
  2. Add in flour, knead for 2 minutes to strech the gluten, set aside in a bowl with little oil, cover up proof for an hour
  3. Flatten the dough, sprinkle with cocoa powder, roll up, cut into 6 pieces
  4. Steam for 12 minutes with high heat, set aside to cool, you can keep it for next cooking
  5. Fry bao till golden, mine its getting browned because of cocoa powder :( drain and serve

Chinese steamed buns can be stuffed with various types of fillings or unstuffed. Those stuffed steamed buns are called as Baozi in Chinese (Bao Buns) and those without fillings are called as mantou. Mantou(馒头) is a basic staple in northern part of China and served in every places of China not just the northern part.
